Bonne nouvelle ! Marcia Griffiths convie ses amis chanteurs et chanteuses sur un double album exceptionnel. Et des amis, elle en a Marcia. La compilation évènement rassemble 38 morceaux, tous issus de collaborations avec le label Penthouse. Imaginez-vous Marcia invitant Buju Banton, Mad Cobra, Beenie Man et Tony Rebel pour reprendre son « Stepping Out A Babylon » en mode dancehall, ou encore le duo Bob & Marcia reformé le temps d’un émouvant « Ebony & Ivory ». Il y en a pour tous les goûts. Du roots avec des légendes comme Gregory Isaacs, Freddie McGregor ou encore John Holt – mention spéciale pour le vibrant « When The Lights Are Low » avec ce dernier. De la soul avec Bob Andy, Da’Ville ou Beres Hammond. Du new roots avec des artistes de la nouvelle génération comme Peetah Morgan, Anthony B., Gentleman (seul représentant européen) ou le jeune talent Exco Levi ainsi que Busy Signal qu’on adore sur « Automatic Love ». Du early dancehall avec les deejays vétérans Cutty Ranks, Lt. Stitchie ou Tony Rebel. On est complètement convaincu par ce véritable « who’s who » du reggae qui défile aux côtés de la reine Marcia. Et la reine a également convié ses princesses : Queen I Frica, Tanya Stephens (énorme « Want Love » sur le « Dis Ya Time Riddim »), Lady G ou la trop peu connue Annette Brissett (« Ridim Affi Roll » vaut vraiment le détour !). On connaissait déjà une bonne partie des titres présents, mais on se remet avec plaisir l’excellente reprise de « Forever Loving Jah » avec Tony Rebel ou le terrible « Childish Games » avec Buju Banton sur le « Swing Easy Riddim ». Buju est d’ailleurs souvent à l’honneur – on le retrouve trois fois, comme Cutty Ranks – mais c’est Tony Rebel qui remporte le plus les faveurs de Marcia Griffiths avec 4 featurings. Quelques curiosités se glissent tout de même dans le lot – on boude un peu « Sense Of Purpose » avec Bunny Rugs de Third World et « Oh No Not My Baby » avec Zumjay – mais rien qui vienne entacher la superbe tracklist de cet album (sorti chez VP Records), que l’on recommande chaudement.
