Compil Mento : 'Jamaica Is The Place To Go'

Le label Fantastic Voyage, spécialisé dans le rock'n roll, rockabilly et autres musiques vintages américaines vient de sortir une compilation intéressante consacrée au mento, l'ancêtre du ska et première musique créée sur la sol jamaïcain. Après le succès de sa précédente compilation dédiée au genre en 2013 (Mento, Not Calypso ! The Original Sound Of Jamaica), le label remet le couvert en 2015 avec Jamaica Is The Place To Go (en référence au morceau de Charlie Binger) qui regroupe 48 titres sur deux CDs. Un coffret précieux avec des tracks rares des pionniers de la musique jamaïcaine (Lord Tanamo, Laurel Aitken, Lord Power, Count Owen...) Une véritable carte postale musicale qui fait le tour de la création jamaïcaine des années 50 en montrant son originalité par rapport au cousin trinidadien, le fameux calypso, qui aura eu beaucoup plus de succès à l'international.
